| Description |
Nederlands: De Staten van Holland nemen onder leiding van Johan en Cornelis de Witt het Eeuwig Edict (1667) aan. Dit bepaalde dat het stadhouderschap in Holland werd afgeschaft en alle politieke functies van de stadhouder werden overgedragen op de Staten van Holland. Tevens werden de zes andere gewesten van de Republiek der Zeven Verenigde Nederlanden verzocht om het stadhouderschap onverenigbaar te verklaren met het kapitein-generaalschap. Deze maatregel was vooral bedoeld om de macht en ambities van het huis Oranje-Nassau en het verwante Engelse koningshuis Stuart aan banden te leggen. |
