English: Triple-flowered Datura metel 'Fastuosa' - calyx lobes of a flower bud open to reveal the tightly-furled, pubescent, purplish-green, developing corolla. Note conduplicate-contorted corolla aestivation (i.e. corolla spirally furled like a rolled umbrella) characteristic of flowers of plants belonging to tribe Datureae of the nightshade family Solanaceae. Note also purple mottling/striation of calyx and glimpse of glossy, purple-black stem that gives the plant its Hindi name of kāla dhatūra (= 'black datura'). |
