Summary

Description
English: Charleton House gate and drive Built by the famed architect William Adam in the 1740s, Charleton House is a Georgian mansion with some Edwardian features. The Latin above the gateway 'Perissim nisi per issim' is the motto of the Thomson family who once owned Charleton. It apparently translates to mean 'Had I not entered I would have perished' ... although I don't find it easy to reconcile that with any Latin I was taught in my school days.
