English: An early radiotelegraphy station, probably from the 1920s, on Sabang island, Indonesia. During the 1910s and 20s European countries built worldwide networks of long distance radiotelegraphy stations to communicate with their colonies abroad. The operator (center) is receiving Morse code from the crystal receiver on the desk, and writing down the translated text message. The spark gap transmitter is at left. |
