Les Galeries Saint-Hubert. — Façade du côté du Marché-aux-Herbes. D'après la lithographie de Borremans. L'ornementation était plus riche. Une statue dorée représentant Saint-Michel la surmontait et l'eau sépandait dans deux larges cuves de pierre. L'administration communale la fit démolir en 1847. C'est cette même année, le Ier juillet, que les galeries Saint-Hubert furent ouvertes au public. La première pierre en avait été posée le 6 mai 1846 par le roi. (1) La Belgique communale, 1847.

Les Galeries Saint-Hubert. — La Galerie du Roi. Dessin original de L. Titz. 270 BRUXELLES MODERNE. A l'occasion de cette cérémonie, qui avait été entourée d'une grande solennité, une médaille fut frappée, qui donne un historique résumé et complet cependant de la construction de ces deux vastes galeries, les premières que l'on ait faites en Europe, et qui sont restées parmi les plus belles que l'on puisse voir, sans que ni la galerie Victor-Emmanuel à Milan, ni le passage de l'Opéra à Paris en éclipsent l'élégante hardiesse. La médaille représente la façade monumentale des galeries sur la rue de l'Ecuyer; au-dessous, les plans des deux galeries et de leurs embranchements avec cet exergue : « Société des Galeries Saint-Hubert, fondée à Bruxelles le 5 juillet 1845, par J.-B. Cluysenaar et J.-A. De Mot. » Le revers porte l'inscription suivante : « Autorisation d'établir les galeries : Arrêté royal du 3 avril 1845. Nothomb, ministre de l'intérieur. — Approbation des statuts
