Description
English: On 30 October 1989, a U.S. Navy McDonnell Douglas F/A-18A Hornet from the aircraft carrier USS Midway (CV-41) mistakenly dropped a 500 lb (227 kg) general-purpose bomb on the deck of the guided missile cruiser USS Reeves (CG-24) during training exercises in the Indian Ocean, creating a 1.5 m hole in the bow through the line locker one compartment forward of the fore missile house, sparking small fires, sending shrapnel back to the fantail and injuring five sailors.
