A June, 1915, Cartoons Magazine article commented on the international reaction to this cartoon: Australia is admittedly jealous of the United States for availing herself of the trade opportunities presented by the war. The accompanying cartoon by Sykes in the Philadelphia Public Ledger, has been circulated widely throughout Australia as "the best characterization of this country's attitude towards the belligerent nations, and, indeed, to the very cause of humanity."[1]
