English: Destruction of the Royal Statue in New York
American revolutionary soldiers, assisted by free blacks and slaves, pulling down the statue of King George III at Broadway and Bowling Green, in New York on July 9, 1776 (the lead statue was later hauled to Connecticut and melted down to create bullets and guns). The title is engraved backwards because the works were intended to be shown on a wall or screen using a "magic lantern", an optical device that projected the image by means of candles and mirrors."
