CANTON ISLAND WAS THE SECOND PORT OF CALL ON THE NATS SOUTHBOUND FLIGHTS FROM HONOLULU.

POLITICALLY, THE ISLAND IS UNDER A CONDOMINIUM STATUS WHEREBY IT IS USED JOINTLY BY THE U.S. AND BRITAIN FOR 50 YEARS (FROM 1939), AT WHICH TIME THE AGREEMENT MAY CONTINUE IN EFFECT OR BE LITIGATED.

MOST REMARKABLE FEATURE OF THE ISLAND IS ITS WEATHER. LOCATED IN A DRY EQUATORIAL BELT IT POSSESSES IDEAL WEATHER CONDITIONS FOR AIRCRAFT OPERATIONS.

IN THE BACKGROUND, AND ON THE BEACH IS THE S.S. PRESIDENT TAYLOR
