Summary

Description
English: 35-40 Buckingham Terrace, Edinburgh From John Gifford, Colin McWilliam, David Walker: Edinburgh (Buildings of Scotland) Penguin, rev 1991: "Buckingham Terrace was begun in 1860 ... the site of nos 35-40 to the west of Belgrave Terrace, originally designed by Chesser ..." {who built the rest of the terrace further east} "... was taken by the builder James Steel whose architect Alexander W. Macnaughtan departed from the agreed scheme. Steel was threatened with proceedings through the Lord Advocate, and nos 41-44 were never built; their place was taken by the Bristo Baptist Church {just behind the camera}. The executed houses are of greyer stone than the rest, without Chesser's trick of balancing the elevations. Full-height bays, and pedimented dormers exploiting the attic space." The terrace overlooks trees alongside the A90.
