Summary

Description

The Witches' Market (Mercado de las Brujas, Mercado de Hechicería) is an area with a concentration of stores selling herbal and folk remedies along with items used in the practice of ancient Aymaran beliefs such as amulets, potions, llama fetuses, and owl feathers. The main god of the indigenous peoples of the Andes is Pachamama also known as Mother Earth.

La Paz (elev.3,240m/11,942ft) was founded in the Andes by the Spaniards in 1548 in a canyon created by the Choqueyapu River. The administrative capital of Bolivia shifted to La Paz in 1898 while Sucre remained the constitutional and judiciary capital.
