The XD Falcon was built from March 1979-March 1982. The XD got a completely new body, a boxy European design rather than curvy American lines of the earlier years, the grille and square headlights similar to Europes Ford Granada. But it was still an XC Falcon underneath with same floorpan and suspension. Sedans were available in GL, Fairmont and Fairmont Ghia Wagons in GL or Fairmont, Ute and Van in Standard or GL The GL came with 3.3 6 cyl, manual, vinyl trim, steel wheels The Fairmont with 4.1 6 cyl, auto, cord trim, steel wheels Fairmont Ghia; 4.1 6 cyl, auto, velour trim, full instrumentation, alloys Two option packs were available on the Sedans; The S pack; (on GL only) driving lights, round slotted wheels, full instrumentation The ESP option: on GL from June 80, and Ghia from Jan 81; Scheel seats, Globe alloys, Fog lamps, body coloured grille, front spoiler, upgraded suspension, LSD and 4 wheel discs. 1980 saw an upgrade on the 6 cyl; alloy head and electronic ignition.
