The Running Man is an upcoming American dystopian thriller film directed by Edgar Wright from a screenplay by Michael Bacall. The film is based on the Stephen King novel of the same name. It is set to be distributed by Paramount Pictures.

Set in the near future, a game show called The Running Man has people chased by murderous Hunters across the world, to win money.[1]

In May 2017, during an Ask Me Anything session on Twitter, Edgar Wright revealed that he always wanted to remake the 1987 film of the same name.[2] It was later announced in February 2021 that a new film based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King was in development at Paramount Pictures. Wright was attached to direct the film and co-write the story alongside Michael Bacall, who was announced to be writing the screenplay. The new adaptation was reported to not be a direct remake of the original, and that Wright and Bacall would be "much more faithful" to the source material. Simon Kinberg and Audrey Chon were announced as producers under Kinberg's Genre Films, alongside Nira Park of Wright's production company Complete Fiction.[3]

On April 11, 2024, it was announced that Glen Powell had been cast in the lead role.[4]
