Summary

Description
English: Arms of Weston of Heath Hayne in the parish of Colyton, Devon: Argent, on a chevron sable three leopard's faces or. (Vivian, Lt.Col. J.L., (Ed.) The Visitations of the County of Devon: Comprising the Heralds' Visitations of 1531, 1564 & 1620, Exeter, 1895, p.780). For the identification of this family with the seat of Heath Hayne (pronounced "Yethin"), see William Henry Hamilton Rogers, Memorials of the West, Historical and Descriptive, Collected on the Borderland of Somerset, Dorset and Devon, Exeter, 1888, pp.226-7[1]. The alternative canting arms of Weston Three tuns (the rebus of a "waisted-tun" was used by Sir Richard Weston (d.1541) and survives moulded in terracotta on the facade of his house Sutton Place, Guildford, Surrey) together with the arms of Walrond (Argent, three bull's heads cabossed sable) survive carved on a chimney piece in the house also inscribed "1561" and "1578", with initials "RW, KW" (image see Hamilton-Rogers. p.221), for the marriage in 1561 (Vivian, p.780) of Robert Weston (d.1606/7) to Katherine Walrond (d.1614), of the Walrond family of Bovey House in the parish of Bere, Devon. Pole gives the Weston arms differently, with a fess in place of a chevron and with bordure engrailed gules (Pole, Sir William (d.1635), Collections Towards a Description of the County of Devon, Sir John-William de la Pole (ed.), London, 1791, p.507). As Pole was also a resident of the parish of Colyton, at Colcombe, he is likely to be a credible source for these arms.
